Life Lessons From Will Smith

Will Smith aka the most inspirational and motivational human on the planet, so here’s to him. Not gonna lie, this was a very fun blog post to write!!

1. Failure is good.

Will Smith seems to stress how good and a necessary part of life failure is. He often says that in order to succeed we need to be willing to fail over and over again and even fail more than we succeed. With that he states that successful people fail a LOT more than they succeed. So if you’ve messed up, made mistakes or anything else you’d class as a failure, it’s OKAY. This failure is helping you grow.

‘Don’t let failure go to your heart and don’t let success go to your head.’

‘Fail early, fail often, fail forward.’

‘Live at the edge of your capabilities, where you’re almost certain of failure.’

2. Fear

Whilst discussing fear, Smith recommends we face it daily. He says that fear lies and convinces us that if we do that thing that we’re afraid of MILLIONS of awful things are gonna happen, endless possibilities of embarrassment and so on and so forth! And so we find ourselves not living the life we want to live because of what fear is telling us is going to happen. Yet, what fear tells us is going to happen isn’t guaranteed to happen, if even at all. The best video I’ve seen of him talking about fear is his talk regarding a skydive he did. YouTube it, it honestly is incredibly motivational and true. Long story short, he goes on to say, why are we scared of something if we’re not facing it yet? We don’t need to be scared of an event hours before it’s happening because, simply, it’s not happening yet (yeah this one is still taking much convincing for myself who’s scared of my own shadow!!).

‘The point of maximum danger is the point of minimum fear.’

‘God placed the best things in life on the other side of terror.’

‘On the other side of your maximum fear are the best things in life.’

3. Kindness

Can we take a moment to appreciate Will Smith’s grandmothers’ wise words, who said ‘if you’re gonna be here it’s a necessity to make a difference’. What a woman. I think it’s clear where he gets his amazing quotes from!! We are all here, some for a long time, some for a short time – none of us know how long. So treat people with love and respect as much as you can when possible.

‘Wake up every day to try and do good.’

‘You have to laugh and joke and be around people that make you laugh’

‘Try to elevate your mind and to be able to love as many people as possible.’

4. Determination

The last but most important lesson to learn from Will Smith – determination. If anyone can convince me to keep going (as in I watch him talking, he’s not a personal friend unfortunately…) it’s this guy. When the going gets tough, keep going, or watch a 30 minute video of Will Smith talking good stuff (it helps). So here’s to Will Smith, an inspirational legend.

‘I talked to people like I was deserving of what this earth has to offer.’

‘Two plus two equals 4, but only if you choose to accept it.’

‘Greatness exists in all of us. This is what I believe and I’m willing to die for it.’

‘You don’t set out to build the biggest baddest wall. You say, I’m going to lay this brick as perfectly as a brick can be laid, and you do that every day, and soon you have a wall.’

‘There’s no reason to have a plan b because it distracts from plan a.’
