You Need To Accept Who You Are Before You Change Who You Are

This is something that has been on my mind lately. I’m unhappy with so many things about myself, mostly my appearance at the moment.

The truth is we may not LIKE who we are right now and that’s fine. It’s in fact good in some ways in order to change and become whoever it is we want to become.

What’s important – acceptance of the present. Decide to accept present you for yourself, in order to let go of the past, and work on change and what’s to come.

Change simply means moving forward onto a different path, and this can ONLY be done when we choose to let go of what was.

Accepting ourselves or anything else doesn’t instantly make everything better and okay again. It simply means allowing yourself to look forward to a brighter future.

It’s about leaving what was, what happened and what was meant to happen all in the past. Look at the past like it’s yesterday, today is the only present and tomorrow is the only future.

Work on loving yourself for who you are right now, even if you have to fake it to yourself. Change can be frightening yes, but remember change IS a positive opportunity for growth and many possibilities.

As the saying goes, nothing good grows in your comfort zone!

Whilst fixating on change, it’s also important to remember that change takes time. For it to fully change it’ll take small, gradual and realistic steps towards.

When it comes to physical change, our weight, what we want to gain or what we want to lose, this is your body. Maybe you hate it right now, but that doesn’t take away the fact that you’re a beautiful person.

I know myself, when I’ve gained weight I’ve felt so worthless and disgusting all because I had a little extra fat. I was still me, my weight doesn’t define me at all, but I certainly let it. It is something that I have a bad relationship with and have done since my early teenage years, so it’s still something that requires a lot of work.

The point is – as cliche as it sounds, we are not that spot on our chin, or the extra bit of chub in our tummies. We are so much more than that, we are worth the world, no matter what we look like!

Set yourself monthly goals, or weekly if you feel that it’s REALISTICALLY possible. It will take time but I can assure you it will be worth it.

Acceptance has to come before anything can change or fully work, long term. Acceptance is what will set you free.

We can’t change the past, no, we can’t take back words or actions or events, but we can change the present and THAT is what can make the difference towards a better and brighter future.
