3 Reasons to Take Rejection as Redirection

Nobody is a fan of rejection, yet it is almost a necessity within the nature of life and its’ funny way of working out. When rejection occurs, it leads you down the false narrative that you are a failure and should quit while you’re ahead. You get down on yourself and you question everything going on in your life at that time. And sometimes it can stop a dream in its tracks and you, from going ahead with any aspirations.

But, when properly examined, rejection isn’t bad. It happens along the way to stop us verging off down tracks which lead to destinations that aren’t meant for us. We have been conditioned to believe that rejection is personal. We’ve been led to believe that rejection makes us a failure, that it is OUR fault and that as a result we’ll struggle to get anywhere in life. There are various reasons why you should perceive rejection as redirection, this blog post highlights three main reasons.

  1. It may stop you from getting what you want, but it gives you what you need

It’s true that rejection is frustrating and that it stops us from getting what we want. Whether it’s a job, person, home or other – rejection stings. Think back to a time when an event occurred in your life as a result of not following your initial plan – would you be who and where you are today without that experience? Trust that all that happens to you is leading you to where you are meant to be at this period in your life.

When you have spent days, weeks, or months dreaming up how something will pan out, it is soul-destroying when it doesn’t turn out how you had expected. It’s hard to feel any amount of motivation to try again but give it time and you will see that the way things happened was what you needed at the time.

2. Rejection isn’t an ending

Rejection may conjure up feelings of impostor syndrome or the belief that this path isn’t meant for us, but what it’s not is a sign to quit or a factor that deems you inept. At first glance, it’s hard to see rejection as anything other than an ending. A time to ‘throw in the towel’. Why keep trying if you’re in for more rejection? You can choose whether or not to believe it, but life really does have a funny way of working out and it will always work out, the secret is that it’s rarely the way you expect it to. You may end up down a million other paths before reaching your goal, but you will always reach that goal as long as you continue to pursue what you set out to achieve.

3. All the best lessons come from failure

Fall down seven times, get up eight – that’s how the famous saying goes, and it’s true. The easiest thing to do, or perhaps what seems like the only option left, is to give up when the going gets tough. There’s no sugarcoating failure but there are lessons to be learnt from each failure we are dealt. Whether it’s a minuscule detail missed or a question answered wrongly, there is always something to be taken from any experience in life – even the wins!

Whatever you do, never give up without putting up one hell of a fight first.

Ciao for now x

Success! You're on the list.
